After seven years at the station, duo Lebogang ‘DJ Naves’ Naves and Sipesihle ‘Sphectacula’ Ngwenya shocked fans by announcing their departure from Metro FM on The Fresh Breakfast show with DJ Fresh this morning.

The ‘Kings of the Weekend’ called the station home for a little over seven years, hosting The Pre Party on with Thando Thabethe on Saturdays.

The DJs have previously said that they’re always looking for opportunities to make more money, and they’ve cited their need to focus on other things for the exit.

“The Pre-Party was a huge success because of all of YOU that tuned in every Saturday. Leaving it is a bold step for us to grow, get out of our comfort zones and challenge ourselves to achieve more. We hope you continue to follow us on our journey, wherever that may lead.”

It’s safe to say weekends on Metro FM will never quite be the same again as both Naves and Sphectacula host their final show on Metro this Saturday.

DJ Naves yesterday posted a cryptic tweet about progress and stepping out of one’s comfort zone on his Instagram before dropping the bomb on us this morning.

The DJs expressed that the decision to leave Metro was not an easy one and did not rule out the possibility of working there again in future.

SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago confirmed to The Sowetan that the broadcaster was currently in the process of appointing a replacement.

The DJs’ exit comes after Bonang Matheba, Unathi Mankayi and Glen Lewis also left the station for different reasons.

According to speculation, it is the station’s reshuffle that left some of the presenters unhappy.

Needless to say, social media has since erupted with reactions to the news
