Karabo Mokoena's memorial is underway

Karabo Mokoena, who was found dead and her body burnt after she was reported missing on the 28th April, is having her memorial today in Diepkloof, Soweto.

Part of those that were in attendance were the community members of Diepkloof that knew and grew up with Karabo, church members, Karabo’s family members as well as Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi.

Emotions ran high and the atmosphere was sombre as the memorial started off with a slideshow of images of the late Karabo Mokoena. Guests entered Diepkloof Hall and were welcomed with song by the choir and mourners.
As the memorial proceeds, it is clear that Karabo Mokoena was deeply loved by community members as members of a cell group that Karabo was part of described her as spirit-filled, heaven-sent and a ‘queen’.

Twitter and the rest of the country have been in full support of #MenAreTrash exposing the violence against female bodies.
Supporters across the country are tired of keeping the silence and are pleading and even demading that action be taken to create safer spaces for women to exist and to feel safe. Karabo Mokoena was another woman out of thousands who suffered and died at the hands of someone she has loved.
