Michelle Obama writes recommendation letter for Yara Shahidi


Imagine getting a letter of recommendation from the former first lady of the United States of America. Well, Yara Shahidi, who will be graduating from high school this year, plans to double-major in African American studies and sociology. She has managed to get a letter from Michelle Obama.

She applied to four colleges, including Harvard,  former First Lady Michelle Obama also gave Yara a pep talk before she took her AP exams, she also wrote the young star a college recommendation letter. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“She is very amazing and such a supporter, which is something very surreal to say,” Shahidi said of the former first lady.


Michelle Obama is staying true to supporting young black women get to where they need to be. She hasn’t neglected her duties as a prominent figure to support women to be the best they can be and live their best lives. Michelle has been creating her own legacy, starting the “Let Girls Learn” initiative in March 2015, which aims to help educate the 62 million girls around the world who aren’t in school. In October 2016, the Obama administration announced the commitment of another five million dollars towards the the Let Girls Learn initiative’s objectives.

Shahidi is a black Muslim woman who first appeared on screen in the show Entourage. Like Malia Obama, Yara plans to defer college for at least a year. Yara has currently landed her very own Black-ish spin-off, which will focus on her character’s college life.

The 17-year-old actress has appeared onstage with the former first lady during public speaking engagements and attended the Obama’s final White House Easter egg roll, where she met Beyoncé for the first time. The article, titled “Yara Shahidi on Women’s Empowerment, Beyoncé’s Pregnancy Instagram, and the Black-ish Spinoff”, describes her rise in the fashion and acting worlds while also being an activist.
