Mzwakhe Mbuli allegedly scammed Mandoza's family.

Mzwakhe Mbuli was dragged on social media and accused of being a funeral scam artist.

Poet Mzwakhe Mbuli has been portrayed as an opportunist who makes money off the funerals of musicians.

In light of Ray Phiri’s death, Twitter was abuzz with accusations of the people’s poet being a funeral scammer.

It all started with Thabiso Mosia, who is a sports presenter at Power FM and a close friend of Mandoza.

Mosia expressed how sad he was that the legendary jazz musician had died. He then went on to tell everyone what he really thought of Mbuli.

Mosis first met Mbuli in a meeting with Mandoza’s family. There were claims that Mbuli tried to rob Mandoza from his grave.

He warned that Phiri’s family might not see Mbuli’s scamming ways because he is a family friend.

This is how the alleged scam works.

Mosia also said Mbuli did not book the Standard Bank Arena for Mandoza’s memorial as promised.

Mandoza’s family then had to fork out R90 000 at the last minute to hire the venue.

The responses from South Africans have been savage.

Even Somizi weighed in on the matter and asked people to make sure that Mzwakhe Mbuli did not attend his funeral.
