The funeral of the late Karabo Mokoena will be on Friday, May 19, at 8am.
Twenty-two year-old Karabo Mokoena hailed from Soweto, and her memorial service will be on Wednesday at 2pm and the funeral service will start at Diepkloof hall.
Mokoena went missing for two weeks, and her body was found burnt beyond recognition in Lyndhurst at a rubbish dump. It’s been widely alleged that she was brutally murdered by her boyfriend of seven months, Sandile Mantsoe. Mantsoe apparently confessed to Mokoena’s uncle Tshepo Mokoena that he had both killed and burned Karabo’s body.
It has also been reported that a fight transpired between the couple at a Sandton nightclub after Mantsoe was caught ‘getting fresh’ with another woman. The couple then left the club together at around 1am on April 28; Mokoena was reported missing soon after that.
Sandile Mantsoe was later arrested in connection to the murder of Mokoena; he’s due is due in court on May 24.
Social development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza, who visited the family yesterday, said, according to a family spokesperson, Karabo had been killed by her boyfriend ‘because she said no.’
‘We are informed by the family that she had said no to the boy, whatever the discussion, whatever the argument was. But she had said no to this young man, and this young man could not take it, and decided to be a coward and to kill a young soul,’ Mayathula-Khoza said.
